Opening: Friday, September 4 2009, 6 - 10 pm

KONRAD FISCHER GALERIE DÜSSELDORF is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of works by Carl Andre on Friday September 4th, 2009 from 6 to 10 pm.

Carl Andre (*1935) ranks among one of the most important representatives of Minimal Art. Since 1967 our gallery shows his work regularly in solo exhibitions. His “sculptural fields” are built of metal plates of copper, lead, aluminium and steel, carbon and stone cuboids or rows of wooden timbers. Andre’s sensibility for several materials, as well as his interest in the phenomenon of space are essential parts in his oeuvre. Since 1966 stone works as “Equivalent“ (1966) and “Cuts“ (1967) are emerging. The current exhibition shows a selection of large-size dolomite and gas concrete works from the 80ties.

“You can accomplish almost any task if you break it down to units of work small enough to fit your capacities. Thus, my sculptures are almost always lines or fields of particles light enough form e to move easily. Hence they are clastic too. People ask me at what point do I know when to stop. The only answer I have come up with so far is “when I run out of me“. (Carl Andre, May 21, 2005)
