CARL ANDRE - MELISSA KRETSCHMER
"CuAl - Plane Works"

June 20 - August 2, 2008

Opening: June 20, 2008, 6 - 9 pm

Since the late 1990s one could say that there has been a dialogue between the works of Carl Andre and Melissa Kretschmer. Andre, whose floor installations Konrad Fischer introduced in 1967 has continued to exhibit new works at Konrad Fischer Gallery since then.
However, compared to these iconic works of Carl Andre, the works of Melissa Kretschmer are little-known in Germany.
Melissa Kretschmer (born 1962, educated at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA) combines in her work materials like beeswax, glass, silicon and paper. Her multi-faceted oeuvre includes a wide spectrum: from small-size glass and beeswax pads of a few inches, silicon and printing ink which form geometrical patterns, to large-size works in situ, for example the installation „Silent Space, Sacred Light“ executed 2003 at Kunststation St. Peter in Cologne.
At Konrad Fischer Galerie Melissa Kretschmer presents works from her „Plane Series“ begun in 2007. In multi-layers of beeswax, plywood, graphite and paper the artist creates assemblage-like panels. The original colors of the particular materials are juxtaposed against the deep black of the graphite.
Carl Andre, whose first works in copper and aluminum were introduced in 1967 and who used these materials in many forms such as wire, cubes, ingots, foil, plates will introduce new copper(Cu) and aluminum(Al). works for this, his latest exhibition at Konrad Fischer Gallery.
