JAN DIBBETS
"Horizont Land Und Meer Land And Sea Horizon"

Jan Dibbets' new series LAND AND SEA HORIZON juxtaposes photographs of dunes and ocean, each mounted on a dibond square of 120 x 120 cm. The recipient views simultaneously what would be in front and what would be behind of him in a real landscape. Dibbets debunks the traditional perceptual habits by presenting a square photograph not in the common way. Although the dibonds are sloping down, the horizon however is levelled.
Jan Dibbets queries the angle of vision from which we perceive reality today: a reality that exists in the objective sense, and another reality that we are able to create as a spiritual fiction in our minds. In his analysis of illusionism he outwits the trick of senses of the camera to create PerspectiveCorrections.
The current exhibition contains also “Colorstudies” from 1976, works with architectural motives as the “Vienna Window” from 1990 and a so-called open “butterfly window” from the former stables in Barcelona by Gaudi.
