Konrad Fischer Galerie is pleased to announce a presentation of the works of Ilse d’Hollander (1968–1997) in her first German solo exhibition.

Impressed by the still lifes of Cézanne and Nicholas de Staël, Ilse d’Hollander started her painting practice in the early 1990s in her Gent studio. In 1994, after moving to the hilly regions of the Flemish Ardennes, she began to neglect figurative aspects in her work in favor of concerted, harmonically balanced abstract elements which are applied in many layers onto the canvas. Her oeuvre is also very much influenced by her friendship with the Belgian painter, Raoul de Keyser, who encouraged the young painter to continue with her intuitive and sublime methods.

After her large solo exhibition at Museum M in Leuven, Konrad Fischer Galerie mainly focuses her small format oil paintings on canvas and gouaches which were created during the last years of her life. Though abstraction dominates in her late paintings, figurative details (like landscape elements, tree branches or the views from her studio window) echo in her well-tempered and clever painterly solutions, this way leaving a fascinating and deep impact upon the beholder.
