DAVID DOUARD
10 September 2016 - 5 November 2016

Konrad Fischer Galerie is pleased to present for the first time works by David Douard. Douard's interest in communication and language is manifested in his sculptures, which are strongly inspired by texts and poems. He juxtaposes elements of familiar domestic interiors with raw, hard components of industrial design.

'Poems gleaned from the Internet come to life, disrupted, selectively, in fragments. Only snippets on the surface reach us, like voices erupting without us knowing where from. The impossibility of following a multitude of links is emphasised; technology is in permanent flux, perpetually moving out of reach. We are resigned to our own malaise, embracing a fatigue and an anxiety toward modalities of construction of uninterrupted networks – a fear of complete emptiness. Dissolving in different realities, we find ourselves in a state of cold comfort, trying resiliently to reach the truth, where we join and combine with others. There are objects which come from places we will never go, but which are so adaptable that we can incorporate them into our bodies and live through them. Others are threatening and sharp, tamed only with time. Placed in an inadequate soil, they should be transplanted to a place where they can finally grow and reveal their inner complex systems.' Daphné Praud

The installation includes two works by Daniel Pommereulle (1937-2003), artist, writer, poet, actor and cineast. His works are pervaded by a sense of violence and irony.

David Douard (*1983 in Perpignan, Frankreich) lives and works in Paris and Aubervilliers. His recent exhibitons include solo shows at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, at the Sculpture Centre, New York, and at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Malmö. Last year his work was shown in a group exhibition at the Fridericianum, Kassel. Horses, his first solo exhibition in Germany, is currently showing at Kunstverein Braunschweig.
