"Spargel ohne Tisch"
September 25 - November 14, 2009
Opening: Friday, September 25, 2009, 6-9 pm
Konrad Fischer Galerie Berlin is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Spargel ohne Tisch with new paintings by Helmut Dorner.
Helmut Dorner first gained international attention through his exhibitions in 1990 at the Haus Lange Krefeld and at the Kunsthalle Bern and then 2 years later by his participation in Documenta IX. Since then, Dorner has been developing several major concerns; the non-metaphorical organisation of the painting’s surface, the free conjunction of color and form and the relationship between the painting and the space surrounding it.
On view in this exhibition will be a number of large and medium size paintings on plexiglas. The plexi works create a play between the translucency of the support, the opacity of the paint, and the pronounced relation of the works to the walls on which they hang by a complex interaction between shadows and possible views through the surfuce.
In his works on plexiglas Dorner often trusts in the movement of the paint, which is directly poured onto the support. The run of the paint on the surface is then directed only through slight movements of the plexiglas panels. Controlled chance and the painter’s ideas of composition come together and constitute the final appearance of these paintings. The works of Dorner – be it the opaque and pastose oil paintings or the translucent and reflective works on plexiglas – require the direct visual experience of the viewer. Within a virtually infinite perception of color, form, rhythm, light and space the works reveal their sensual poetry, which captures the viewer intellectually as well as emotionally while remaining resistant to any fixed interpretation.
