KORPYS/LÖFFLER IN KOOPERATION MIT DIETER SCHMAL // GEIST
15. September - 28. Oktober 2012
In 1969 the legendary exhibition When Attitudes Become Form, curated by Harald Szeemann, took place at the Kunsthalle Bern. It was to go down in history on account of its inclusion of completely new art forms such as Land Art and Happenings, presented in an innovative contextual framework. On 13.07.2012 a picture was taken entitled When Attitudes Become Form. Schlempe (Distillate), the ‘disenchanted’ residue of a distillation process, decanted into glass receptacles. This is the ultimate landmark show catalogue, the metamorphic product of its leftovers, its fermented concepts and contents. The exhibition Geist (Spirit) conserves the odour and taste of historical relics. It reviews landmarks in art history, taking into account the history of Künstlerhaus Bremen and the local atmosphere of the Hanseatic City. Korpys/Löffler engage with what has survived from recent decades and, with the aid of Dieter Schmal, turn these remains into solid and liquid documents. By way of gustatory and olfactory stimuli, they transform our images of the past. Memories are evoked, and the aromas of history reduced to their essence: the materialised spirit of times past.
The exhibition takes place in the context of ZWANZIG12 – the 20th anniversary of the Künstlerhaus Bremen. Bremen celebrates with us at 18 sites, with 45 events, 67 artists, open studios on 15. and 22.09.2012.
