NAZIM ÜNAL YILMAZ
"straight"

Nazim Ünal Yilmaz doesn ́t simply articulate topics or allegories in his pictures. He tries to reconstruct the origins of painting. This intention appears in expressive colours and gestures. His realism is interrupted by left out details as well as by a strong segmentation of the images. Dramatically depicted scenes and a personal approach to classical themes of art remind of Caravaggios painting. Different areas as sexuality, family and politics are reflected in references to history of art and even natural science. For Yilmaz painting is a means of expression of western culture that he reflects from outside. He has a radical approach because his thoughts go to the fundaments of the medium. He creats a contemporary painting which aims at a pictorial and thematic updating.

Born in 1981 in Trabzon/ Turkey. Studied art at the Anatolia University in Istanbul. Studies and works now in Vienna. Participated in different group shows e.g. REAL.Junge österreichische Kunst 2006/ Kunsthalle Krems, Base Camp 2/ Kunsthaus Meran and no)))2/ Galerie Amer Abbas

“In particular in a life which is, in my opinion, only bearable with incidents of aesthetic value I address those individual and social subjects and stories in my work - without avoiding ethical issues - that are intrinsic to aesthetics and beauty, which for their part count as prerequisites for a respect for the viewer and for utopian ideas and vision.”
