Kunsthal Charlottenborg launches its first Biennale titled Poet Slash Artist. The international art exhibition is shown in the streets, train stations and bus stops all across Denmark. Poet Slash Artist, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Lemn Sissay, is an exploration of poets who work with visual art and visual artists who work with poetry.
Poet Slash Artist was originally commissioned and produced by the Manchester International Festival (MIF) and HOME in July 2021 and is now shown in a new version across Denmark bringing together cultures, continents, languages and generations with works by 35 Danish and international artists and poets.
The participating artists are: Etel Adnan, Adonis, Jay Bernard, Anne Boyer, Julien Creuzet, Imtiaz Dharker, Jimmie Durham, Jeannette Ehlers, Inua Ellams, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Tracey Emin, Renee Gladman, Vivienne Griffin, Lubaina Himid, Sky Hopinka, Isaiah Hull, Jakob Jakobsen, Cassie Augusta Jørgensen, Miriam Kongstad, Tarek Lakhrissi, Lebogang Mashifane, Friederike Mayröcker, Hesselholdt & Mejlvang, Jota Mombaça, Precious Okoyomon, Heather Phillipson, Lea Porsager, Lea Guldditte Hestelund & Olga Ravn, Tabita Rezaire, Tiffany Sia, Amalie Smith, Cecilia Vicuña, Xu Bing, Gozo Yoshimasu.
The works of art at this year’s Biennale can be seen in several hundred places on streets, bus stops and train stations throughout Denmark from 15 November to 31 December 2021. The large distribution means that 84% of the Danish population can experience works from the exhibition around the country. The works can also be experienced together from 27.-31. December 2021 at Nørreport Station and in the courtyard at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen.
Kunsthal Charlottenborg Biennale Poet Slash Artist is produced in collaboration with AFA JCDecaux and shown on AFA JCDecaux’s nationwide advertising panels. Kunsthal Charlottenborg has previously had exhibition collaborations with AFA JCDecaux in both 2017 (Yoko Ono –Transmission) and 2019 (It’s Urgent!) and has now formalized the collaboration, so that in the future an international Biennale exhibition will be arranged all over Denmark every other year.
The exhibition in Denmark is supported by the Obel Family Foundation, Augustinus Foundation and the Danish Arts Council.
