POWER OF THE POWERLESS

Is art able to create images for less visible or even completely invisible groups of a population? Is art able to give them a profile and a voice and to create spaces of participation/action? Is it ableto give power to the powerless? These questions are at the core of the exhibition Power of the Powerless in the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
Escape and expulsion in Ciudad Juárez (Mexico) are the central themes of the installation by Teresa Margolles. The murals by Alaa Awadare his form of protest in the Arab Spring. dOCUMENTA (13)-artist Rabih Mroué is working with mobile telephone videos by syrian civilians circulating on the internet, and shows the revolutionary potential in this form of documentation
A local connection is established through the neighboring project Prinzessinnengarten. For the first time the Urban Gardening Project is included in a museum context and is invited to redesign the Café Kunsthalle in Baden-Baden.
