Dissonanzproduktion
21 February – 15 March 2009
With the solo show “Dissonanzproduktion” (The Production of Dissonance) by Christine Würmell, Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin opens a new project space in its foyer. This is the start of a series of quickly changing projects alongside the long-term exhibitions in the main space that will offer insights into a broad spectrum of the Berlin art landscape.
As the first artist to exhibit in the project space, Christine Würmell (born in 1972 in Frankfurt am Main) is faced with the challenge of transforming the former wardrobe in the foyer into an exhibition space. To do this, she bombards the space with white paint, transforming it into a fragmentary white cube where she has installed three photographic works. With “Futures” (2008), “2005–2050” (2009) and “California Leadership Ending Global Warming” (2009) the artist discusses different strategies of changing the meaning of an image by manipulating the text. With “Dissonanzproduktion” Würmell presents an exhibition in which she combines complex contexts, various levels of ideas and statements in a simplified way with the awareness – which can be seen in a variety gaps and breaks within the works – that she is shifting the interpretation of the originals by doing so.
