Berlinde De Bruyckere & Martin Honert
16 Sep 2006 - 07 Jan 2007
As part of the Quadriennale 06 Artcity Düsseldorf:
Berlinde De Bruyckere and Martin Honert
under cover - aus dem Verborgenen
16th September 2006 — 7th January 2007
Under the auspices of the Quadriennale 06, the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf will present two exceptional artists from the fields of contemporary sculpture. Featuring the works of Berlinde De Bruyckere and Martin Honert, the exhibition levels its attention at contemporary positions in art which confront the observer with his/her individual dreams and nightmares, with unfathomable occurrences, as well as with the interplay of reality and fiction. The Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere (born 1964, living in Ghent) has been using woollen blankets, skins, wax and epoxy resin as material for her sculptures and installations since the early Nineties. They symbolize security and warmth as well as vulnerability and fear. Her artworks derive from the tension existing between these opposites, in which profound sadness and beauty wrestle for attention.
Martin Honert (born 1953, lives in Düsseldorf and Dresden) consigns memories and seemingly everyday occurrences relating mostly to the experiences of childhood into detail-rich sculptures and installations which function as Tableaux Vivants and in which vibrancy and movement are transformed into static images. His models preserve fleeting moments and question the subjective transference of one's own ability to remember. The exhibition will include selected works and new pieces in relation to the spatial and architectural properties of the Kunsthalle.
