Josef Schützenhöfer’s latest work 71 is a colossal image that is due to move into the ground floor of Kunsthaus Graz: it depicts a huge sinister lorry that may be regarded as a continuation of the artist’s painting work focussing on the lorry as an unpleasant precursor of alleged industrial or social progress.
Schützenhöfer sees “painting as a means of expression to be defiant and to encourage others to do the same, to be rebellious – or as the former resistance fighter Stéphane Hessel proclaimed in 2010 in his manifesto “Indignez-vous” – be outraged.” (Ingrid Reichel)
