Pablo Picasso took an intense interest in exploring the specific possibilities offered by print-making techniques. From woodcuts and etchings to lithographs and linoleum cuts, he employed every known printing technique with stupendous ease and mastery, developing complex mixed techniques and experimenting with polychrome prints. He created his first etching, Le repas frugal, in 1904, at the age of 23. An ambitious piece, it was the start of a huge oeuvre of over 2000 printed works. The exhibition will show a representative selection of approximately one hundred works spanning the artist’s career, from the Blue Period through Cubism to the late works made around 1970. Among them are fantastic pieces like the colour linoleum cut L’Homme à la fraise and etchings from the famous Suite Vollard.
