ROBERT THERRIEN
Works on Paper

Curator: Christian Müller

Robert Therrien (born in Chicago in 1947, lives and works in Los Angeles)
has made a name for himself primarily for his large-format sculptures
and installations but he is also active in the fields of drawing, prints and
photography. The works on paper that will be on view in this exhibition
cover the past 20 years. Their subject matter is drawn from daily life:
plates, pots, chairs, tables, cartoon physiognomies and architectural elements.
These motifs and objects exist not only in reality but also in the
pictures we see around us and in our memories. The appeal of the works
on display lies in their reduction to the utmost simplicity of form. Their
arrangement on paper and the precision of their physical appearance
places them in an unexpected light, stirring personal memories, associations
and rediscoveries, and lending them a literary, narrative quality.
