For her exhibition in the Kunsthalle Bern in 2001, Maria Eichhorn became interested in the owner and property circumstances of the institution. She analysed the financial background of the building and the shareholders' capital and integrated what she had learned in a three-part project consisting of a catalogue, an exhibition and a publication. The latter is a reprint of the shareholder certificates with values of CHF 50.-, CHF 100.- and CHF 500.- which were originally issued with exactly the same values between 1910 and 1918 and the proceeds of which made the construction and operating of the museum possible.
Commissioned by the Kunsthalle Bern, Maria Eichhorn has now made a video film that again summarizes the exhibition and the share certificates project and promotes the project. The short "promotional film" is absolutely matter-of-fact: mundane action, unspectacular pictures, neutral sound. One can concentrate completely on the pure informational content and is not "wooed" as a potential buyer. The artist offers the possibility of participation but leaves the decision of what form this will take (financial, sympathetic, intellectual and so on, or denial of same) to each individual.
