FRISCHZELLE_18: PELES EMPIRE
23 March - 9 June 2013
In 2005, Katharina Stoever, born in Giessen in 1982, founded the artist collective Peles Empire together with Barbara Wolff, a German born in Romania, who is two years her senior. They chose their name as a reference to the Romanian castle Peles which was built between 1873 and 1914 and is characterized by an unusual mix of different styles: Each room of the building is dedicated to another era, from the Gothic period to Art Déco. The two artists made a name for themselves with their projections and montages, in which they transferred rooms from Peles to other exhibition spaces. Through this project Katharina Stoever and Barbara Wolff keep exploring the possibilities of a total artwork and the importance of ornamentation and historism. Both artists live and work in Stuttgart and London.
We would like to thank the accounting firm KPMG AG for their support of this project.
