The exhibition 11 Berner Künstler took place in the Kunsthaus Zürich in 1940. International lending was impossible in times of war and one thought of Swiss art. It was an opportunity to introduce new positions or to recall others.
The Kunstmuseum Thun takes this exhibition as a starting point for its collection exhibition featuring works of some of the artists shown at that time. In addition, eleven contemporary Bernese artists are presented, some of whom are also part of the museum collection. The artists are roughly of the same age, like the artists of that time, and currently dominate the local art scene. The variety of topics and the used media are selected to fully express the breadth of artistic production in Bern both past and present.

Participating artists:

1940: Tonio Ciolina, Max Fueter, Herold Howald, Max von Mühlenen, Alexander Müllegg, Fernand Riard, Victor Surbek
2015: Franziska Bieri, Anja Braun, Livia Di Giovanna, Maia Gusberti, Mohéna Kühni, Karin Lehmann, Karen Amanda Moser, Annaïk Lou Pitteloud, Rebecca Rebekka, Miriam Sturzenegger, Maria Tackmann
