TOBIAS REHBERGER
"...my time is not your time"
14.03.09 - 30.04.09
Tobias Rehberger is regarded as one of the most important artists of our time (place 46 in the Kunstkompass Ranking 2008). ‘His works bring together influences from architecture, design, fashion, advertising, and sociology.’*
The artist lives and works in Frankfurt am Main and has been teaching sculpture at the Frankfurt Städelschule since 2001. In 2008, Rehberger exhibited, among other venues, at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The exhibition at the Kunstraum Innsbruck is his first solo exhibition at an Austrian art institution.
For the Kunstraum, Tobias Rehberger has conceived a light-space-installation bearing the title ‘... my time is not your time.’ The title refers to the installation’s function. Attached to a pillar, two rings, with perspex panes attached, rotate counterwise and at different speeds. Light, hitting the stencils from the inside, projects numbers onto the wall opposite from 1 to 12, in correspondence to the hour of the day. The numbers take shape by way of an overlapping of applications on and cutouts in the perspex. What we are looking at, in a word, is a ‘mechanical sun-dial’ giving the precise time on the hour.
With this installation, Tobias Rehberger’s remarkable knack for toying with the different levels of reality once more is vividly demonstrated.
