When Angels Forgot To Tell

When angels forgot to say Human,
the Shadow met its Subject on the analyst’s couch.

When angels forgot to say Nature,
there was a business model called global warming.

When angels forgot to say Animal,
they were only slightly higher than men but not yet minotaurs.

When angels found primitive sculptures at the supermarket,
they confused universal and primordial.

Experience of Nature, travelling as a mode of reflection, concrete phenomena such as climate change or the relationship between humans and animals, and abstracts such as the encounter between daily life and the metaphysical mark the work of Italian artist Deborah Ligorio.
Her interest is focused on models of thought, visions of the world and philosophies guiding our view of nature and behavior.
The exhibition in Arnsberg shows a personal world. It seems like a chamber of memories, a private collection of things, pictures, spaces, and sounds. The outer world has left its traces: a fashion-icon looks at us, next to it is a feminist activist, a well-known image from a movie. But in the end everything remains within the disorder of the inner world, where things fight their usage, curtains talk like animals and images flicker like memories.

Deborah Ligorio, born 1972 in Brindisi, lives in Berlin. Her work has been shown in Hangar Bicocca, Milan (2009), Manifesta 7 (2008) as well as in Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen (2008), Kunstmuseum Thurgau, Warth (2008), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2007), XV Quadriennale di Roma, Rome (2007), Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna (2007) and Sharjah Biennale (2007).
