Art of the Pacific

19 Sep 2009 - 15 Aug 2010

Highlighting one of the most significant collections of art of the Pacific assembled in the twentieth century, these extraordinary works represent a wide range of the Pacific regions with an emphasis on the areas of Polynesia and Melanesia. Key works include a superb eighteenth-century Hawaiian Drum collected by Captain James Cook in 1778, an Easter Islands Dance Paddle, and an Hermaphrodite Ancestor Figure. Approximately 48 works will be on display.
This exhibition is organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and curated by Nancy Thomas, deputy director, art administration and collections.
