MARIO YBARRA JR.
"Black Squirrel Society"
Growing up, the artist's father would bring his children along on his night job cleaning a Masonic temple in South Los Angeles. For his first solo exhibition in New York, Mario Ybarra Jr. will construct a large-scale installation to create his prosaic vision. Consisting of mural sized paintings and sculpture, Ybarra activates the space with folklore, and employs his vivid childhood memories to explore his Mexican-American experience.
The exhibition will be on view from 24 June through 8 August 2008. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10AM – 6PM. Summer gallery hours begin after 4 July, Tuesday – Friday 10AM – 6PM.
