Über den Wolken schweben
opening: 26 April, 6 - 9 pm

After five exciting years at Halle am Wasser, Loock Galerie is pleased to inaugurate its new space on Potsdamer Straße 63 in Berlin with the solo show Über den Wolken schweben (Floating Above the Clouds) by Takehito Koganezawa.

The exhibition Über den Wolken schweben shows two new video works and paper sculptures. In all these works, Koganezawa explores the origins of drawing. In "History Of The Flat Earth #1-2", it is variations of a simple black line that depict materials from his studio on 60 sheets of paper in a frottage technique. His video, for which he has scanned and animated this material, presents these variations like a score that opens up a wide field of associations: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg-Variations, but also both Japanese scroll paintings (emaki) as well as concrete poetry of the 1950s come to mind. Especially concrete poetry, where language no longer serves to describe a situation, an idea, or a mood, but itself becomes the purpose and subject of the poem, is a good analogy for "History Of The Flat Earth #1-2": language represents itself, just as the drawing becomes the support of the animated video.

The second video, Before and After Bodies, on the other hand, is a colourful psychedelic spectacle – a painterly collage drawing on Koganezawa’s video performances. Here, coloured drawings are processed with a scanner and subsequently animated in a video. Material from his extensive ‘video fishing’ forms sediments and melts into something that Koganezawa describes as ‘restless movement covers everything on the screen’.

The video installations are complemented by "Paper Forts", paper sculptures in which Koganezawa takes drawing from two-dimensionality to three-dimensionality. The two-dimensional surfaces of the coloured pencil drawings become the artist’s three-dimensional miniature world.

Currently, Takehito Koganezawa is showing at the following venues: In the exhibition Bilder im Fluß at Kunstraum Alexander Buerkle, Freiburg (Germany), he is showing a selection of video works (23 March – 23 June 2013). In Brazil, he is participating in two exhibitions: in "Still em Movimento" at Lição de Pintura at Paço das Artes, São Paolo (10 April to 23 June 2013) and in "Super 8" at the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro (6 April to 2 June 2013). Together with the Berlin designer Bless, Koganezawa is working on an exhibition for the Mito Arts Foundation in Japan. Furthermore he will be having a screening at Videoforum, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.), Berlin in May 2013.
