BEING THERE
International Contemporary Art
10 October 2017 - 25 February 2018
Who are we? What are we becoming? Featuring video works, sculptures and installations this exhibition presents a range of prominent, younger artists who are all intent on questioning and seeking answers to the human condition in an ever more rapidly and radically changing world.
We live increasingly not only with, but also in, the Net, and this digital development and challenge preoccupies many of today’s younger artists. They reflect, investigate and question this new reality – and at the same time use its instruments.
For many of these artists, technology's growing influence helps to create a renewed interest in fundamental existential themes and gives them an opportunity to treat common human and eternal questions about existence.
The Being There exhibition presents twelve sharp, prophetic, humorous, subtle and disturbing video works, sculptures and installations – signed by a number of prominent young players on the global art scene, among others Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin (both born in 1981), Cécile B. Evans (born in 1983) and Ian Cheng (f. 1984).
