FERNANDA GOMES

April 5 - May 6, 2008

Galeria Luisa Strina is proud to present the upcoming solo- exhibition of Brazilian artist Fernanda Gomes.

As conceived in the sequence of her previous exhibitions held at Galeria Luisa Strina, who represents the artist since 1990, Fernanda presents multiple angles of her continuous and simultaneous artistic investigation.

Painting, sculpture and drawing are considered as flexible and merging fields.

The exhibition space serves as direct continuance of the space where the work has been created, preserving the transparency of the artist’s process. Fernanda Gomes’ new body of work will be displayed in all three gallery floors and on the roof top.

"An exhibition by Fernanda Gomes is never the mere gathering of a
group of works. The exhibition itself is the work, laboriously re-
collected and re- constructed according to the challenge configured by
each new place. (...) The work only truly happens when it is arranged in a certain way,
structured by the invisible alphabeth that the artist will discover in
each exhibition space." explains João Fernandes, curator and director
of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, in the accompanied
exhibition catalogue in 2006.

Fernanda Gomes (born Rio de Janeiro, 1960) lives and works in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. Her most recent exhibitions include her solo- shows at
the Matadero (Madrid, February- April 2008), the Museu de Arte
Contemporânea de Serralves (Porto, 2006), the Museu de Arte da
Pampulha (Belo Horizonte, 2004). Fernanda Gomes participated in some
of the major Biennials such as the Venice Biennial (2003), the Sydney
Biennial (1998), the Istanbul Biennial (1995) and the Sao Paulo Biennial
(1994).
