KEILA ALAVER
2 April - 3 May, 2011
In the continuous search for objects with particular characteristics susceptible to transformation, Keila Alaver (São Paulo, 1970) will present three series of new works in Galeria Luisa Strina. In Cartões em Movimento (Moving Cards), life-size static images of everyday scenes become animated by the eye of the beholder. In Borboletário (Butterfly House), rough Brazilian gems compose acrylic butterfly wings. The video Floresta Mágica (Magic Forest), on its turn, documents through time-lapse process the blossoming of a Japanese garden, a ludic image were it not mere illusion caused by a chemical process in a children’s toy. The artist brings life and artificial movement to her creations, at first inanimate, in an obvious make believe by means of their own mechanisms.
