28 February — 28 March 2015

Galeria Luisa Strina is pleased to announce Escenario, proyectil, the second solo exhibition of Argentinian artist Matías Duville, five years after his first exhibition at the gallery. His work is at present exhibited at CCSP – Centro Cultural São Paulo in an exhibition named Beleza? (Beauty?) and the artist opens a solo exhibition in March at MAM Rio.
The work of Duville deals with themes such as space and volume, organic and inorganic elements, which many times take the form of large installations on the exhibition space. For his solo show at Galeria Luisa Strina, the artist developed large scale drawings, a video, a central installation and pieces to be set up on the gallery’ s floor, exploring the relationship between civilization and nature.
Born in Buenos Aires, in 1974, the artist participated in a series of residencies in Colombia (Flora, Honda, 2014); France (SAM Art Projects, Paris, 2013); USA (John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, New York, 2011 and Skowhegan Residency Scholarship, 2011); Italy, Brazil and Peru.
Duville also participated in group exhibitions at Petit Palais, Paris (2013); MUSAC – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (2010); MALBA – Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (2009); CIFO – Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami (2008). He also took part on a project at Drawing Center, in 2009, that resulted in a book published in 2013.
His work is part of the following collections: MOMA – Museum of Modern Art, New York; MALI – Museo de Arte de Lima, Peru; MACRO – Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Rosario, Argentina; MAMBA – Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires; Patricia Cisneros Collection, New York, USA; ARCO Foundation, Madrid, Spain.
