THE GREAT CELESTIAL ABSTRACTION: CHINESE ART IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Contemporary Chinese art is the fruit of a long pictorial journey, which evolved from an initial manual skill and remains in the same tradition.The current relevance of abstract painting by Chinese artists lies in the powerful flow of a work that has found a balance between conceptual process and formal outcome. American minimal and conceptual art, which tends towards dematerialization of the object, has generally favoured the moment of planning over that of execution.
On display 32 works by 15 artists: Hong (1972), Li Huasheng (1944), Li Xiangyang (1957), Lian Quan (1948), Liu Gang (1965), Liu Xuguang (1958), Ma Kelu (1954), Meng Luding (1962), Tan Ping (1960), Xu Hongming (1971), Yu Youhan (1943), Zhang Hao (1962), Zhang Jian Jun (1955), Zhang Yu (1959), Zhou Yangming (1971).
‘The Great Celestial Abstraction – Chinese Art of the 21st Century’ is organised under the patronage of the Chinese Embassy in Italy and sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Roma Capitale, Department of Cultural Affairs and Historical Center - Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, Chamber of Commerce of Rome; organization and museum services by Zètema Progetto Cultura.
