"You and I, Horizontal III"
Anthony McCall, s’est fait connaître dès les années 70 pour ses films delumière solide, notamment « Line Describing a Cone » réalisé en 1973. Avec cepremier film, il affirme la spécificité du cinéma à travers ses proprescomposants. Il crée des installations sculptant l’espace grâce à la projectionde la lumière dont le spectateur peut faire l’expérience matérielle.Cette série de films de lumière solide comporte : « Long Film for FourProjectors » (1974), « Four projected Movements » (1975) and « Long Film forAmbient Light » (1975).Pour cette deuxième exposition personnelle à la galerie, Anthony McCallprésente une double vidéoprojection horizontale : « You and I, Horizontal III »(2007), une série de dessins et de photographies : « Leaving » (2006),« Watertable », (1972), « Projected Colums » (2008) ainsi que desperformances filmées : « Landscape for White Squares » (1972) , « Earthwork »(1972) et « Five-Minute Drawing » (1974).Anthony McCall is famous for his seminal « solid-light » film installation of 1973,« Line Describing a Cone ». In the following few years, he went on to exploreparameters of a new kind of sculptural installation based on projected light,structure, and an active spectator.Those works included : « Long Film for Four Projectors (1974), « Four projectedMovements » (1975) and « Long Film for Ambient Light » (1975).The current exhibition is pleased to present a new two projector lightinstallation : « You and I, Horizontal III » and a series of new installations andoff-site developpment drawings of works in progress. Also on view are threeimportant early works, including the photo series « Watertable » (1972) ; andfilms of the performances « Landscape for White Squares » (1972),« Earthwork » (1972), and « Five-Minute Drawing » (1974).
