Landed – the first sculpture for the Berlin airspace – is permanently installed on the roof of the 14th floor of the Daimler Financial Services headquarters on Potsdamer Platz and completes the sculptural ensemble of the Daimler Art Collection, started in 1996. It is a metal sculpture which resembles a flying space element that draws attention to it with a high banner. The starting point for Auke de Vries' sculptural thinking is the concept of a body without pre-given definitions: without mass, without volume, without center. The question is: ‘How can I react to the consequences of scientific developments, from the theory of relativity to bio-politics?’ The sculpture must give visual expression to the experience of profound instability in all situations and all agreements. A visual expression that grasps and visualizes this experience as positive free scope for the imagination. In keeping with this approach, Auke de Vries' sculptures are interconnections of potential energies, they create ‘space’ for new perspectives on reality.
Gelandet – die erste Skulptur für den Berliner Luftraum - ist auf dem Dach im 14. Stock des Daimler Financial Services Gebäudes am Potsdamer Platz permanent installiert und erweitert in origineller Weise das 1996 begründete Skulpturenensemble der Daimler Kunst Sammlung am Potsdamer Platz. Es handelt sich um eine Metallskulptur, die an eine fliegende Raumzelle erinnert, die mit einer hohen Fahne auf sich aufmerksam macht. Ausgangspunkt des plastischen Denkens von Auke de Vries ist die Vorstellung eines Körpers ohne vorgegebene Definitionen, ohne Masse, ohne Volumen, ohne Zentrum. Seine Frage ist: ›Wie kann ich auf die Konsequenzen wissenschaftlicher Entwicklungen, von der Relativitätstheorie bis zur Biopolitik, reagieren?‹ Die Skulptur muss – so Auke de Vries – der Erfahrung gründlicher Instabilität aller Lebenslagen und Erkenntnisse ein Bild geben, das diese Erfahrung als positiven Freiraum der Phantasie begreift und sichtbar macht. Auke de Vries’ Skulpturen schaffen ›Raum‹ für eine andere Sicht der Welt.
