The Berlin Project Room EPW;O was generated during a stay of John Nixon in Berlin. (EPW;O) is the name of his project about interrogation of non-representational painting. Nixons references are Malewitsch’s Black Square and Duchamp’s Ready-mades. Nixon experiences their possibilities and evolves them in a dialogue with other protagonists of the modern spirit, like El Lissitzky, Piero Manzoni as well as the minimalists. The engagement with them he applies like an experimental series of an empirical research-project. Staged as a labor, the Berlin Project Room reveals Nixon’s methods of analysis of the modern abstract art and informs us about his continuation of the ‘project of modernity’.
Der Berlin Project Room EPW:O entstand während eines Aufenthalts von John Nixon in Berlin. (EPW:O) bezeichnet sein Projekt zur Befragung der nichtgegenständlichen Malerei. Bezugspunkte Nixons sind Malewitschs Schwarzes Quadrat und Duchamps Readymades. Nixon schöpft ihre Möglichkeiten aus, entwickelt sie innerhalb seines Oeuvres im Dialog mit anderen Protagonisten der Moderne, wie EL Lissitzky, Piero Manzoni sowie den Minimalisten weiter. Dabei legt er die Beschäftigung mit ihnen ähnlich einer Versuchsreihe in einem empirischen Forschungsprojekt an. Der als Labor inszenierte Berlin Project Room legt Nixons Methoden zur Analyse der abstrakten Kunst der Moderne offen und gibt über den aktuellen Stand seiner Fortführung des ›Projekts der Moderne‹ Auskunft.
