6:00 P.M., Philippe Parreno's projection of a field of light, interrupted by a few cast shadows, on a carpet, stems from the world of the thinkable that can happen everywhere. You find this world in books, comics, video games or films which are interspersed with spaces and temporality. The carpet is part of it, perhaps a fragment of a mise-en-scène for a film, where the crucial scene could play in an almost empty apartment, with the evening sun sending forth its fading beams through its large windows. What will happen? What has happened here? Having been a spectator a minute ago, you now find yourself participating either playing the part of an actor or perhaps playing yourself. Philippe Parreno uses the medium of film as a model for his artistic thinking, which focuses on working by way of exhibiting itself, rather than on individual objects.
6:00 P.M., 6 Uhr abends, Philippe Parrenos Projektion einer schattiert durchbrochenen, lichten Fläche auf einem Teppich stammt aus der Welt des Denkbaren, des Phantastischen, das überall stattfinden kann. Der Teppich ist ein Teil davon, vielleicht Fragment einer Filmhandlung, wobei die entscheidende Szene in einem fast leeren Apartment spielen könnte, durch dessen große Fensterscheiben die abendliche Sonne ihr schräges Licht hineinschickt. Als vormaliger Betrachter findet man sich als Akteur wieder, der vielleicht in die Rolle eines Schauspielers schlüpft, vielleicht als er selbst agiert. Das Medium Film dient Parreno als Modell für ein künstlerisches Denken, das in der Form einer Erzählung arbeitet – und nicht an einem isolierten Objekt.
