The video installation Six animations translates a constructive and synthetic pictorial language into colorfully ‘poppy’ computer animations. The standardized, static compositional principle of abstraction are animated and also refracted by means of combination and variation. The artist detaches the forms from their narrow, pictorial definition and transfers them into a crossover of graphics and techno-music. Rockenschaub's Six animations makes it clear how strongly the pictorial reservoir of art has now been taken over by the mass media. Constantly improving technical resources lead to ever more perfect products for which art history is only the aesthetic of goods, in other words a surface characteristic. The abstract and geometrical art of the 20th century becomes a model supplier for fashion, graphics, and design, and enjoys a great deal of popularity, but paradoxically it remains alien to most people as art. Thus it is clear to only a very few viewers that the reduced form of the video installation, reflected in current, now world-standard shop design from Sony to Prada, has its origins in Minimal Art, in Donald Judd's sculptures, for example.
Die Videoinstallation Six animations übersetzt eine konstruktiv-synthetische Bildsprache in poppig-bunte Computeranimationen. Die Kompositionsprinzipen der Abstraktion werden animiert, durch Variation gebrochen und in ein Crossover von Graphik und Technomusik transferiert. Six animations macht deutlich, wie stark das Bilderreservoir der Kunst inzwischen von den Massenmedien vereinnahmt worden ist. Ständig sich verbessernde technische Möglichkeiten führen zu immer perfekteren Produkten, für welche Kunstgeschichte nur Warenästhetik ist. Während die historische Abstraktion zum Musterlieferanten für Mode, Graphik und Design geworden ist, bleibt sie paradoxerweise als Kunst den meisten fremd. So wird auch erst bei genauerer Betrachtung und im Kontext einer minimalistischen Bildsprache deutlich, dass die reduzierte Form der Videoinstallation nicht nur das aktuelle, inzwischen weltweit zur Norm gewordene Shopdesign von Sony bis Prada reflektiert, sondern ihren Ausgang in den Skulpturen der Minimal Art, etwa eines Donald Judd, nimmt.
