Born in Düsseldorf in 1922, artist Norbert Kricke’s interest in the internal metal framework of the plaster models rather than in the structural forms applied to them dates back to his time as a student. Delicate, geometric structures reaching out in a fan shape into space dispense with the solid contours of traditional sculptural material and bring to mind a spatial perception that is based on dynamic lines and the movement of light reflexes. His Flächenplastik im Raum resembles materialized paths of movement that emerge from endless space, and appear to immediately disappear again. The artist himself describes this concisely as follows: “the surface as space, made visible by a [curved] line, is a rectangular section of unending space. The line as a form of movement illustrates both the negative and positive: the curvature of space. “This,” the artist continues, “is what determines our current world view: space and movement as an entity: space and time – the only inseparable entity in the world as we know it thus far.”
Der 1922 in Düsseldorf geborene Künstler Norbert Kricke interessierte sich bereits während seiner Studienzeit mehr für die inneren Metallgerüste der Gipsmodelle als für das darüber aufzubauende Körpervolumen. Feingliedrige, geometrische Strukturen, die fächerartig in den Raum strahlen, verzichten auf feste Konturen traditionellen skulpturalen Materials und vergegenwärtigen eine Raumerfahrung anhand dynamischer Linien und Bewegung von Lichtreflexen. Seine Flächenplastik im Raum gleicht materialisierten Bewegungsspuren, die aus dem unendlichen Raum kommend, sogleich wieder zu verschwinden scheinen. Der Künstler selbst beschreibt dies präzise: „Die Fläche als Raum, durch eine [gebogene] Linie sichtbar gemacht, ist rechteckiger Ausschnitt unendlichen Raumes. Linie als Form von Bewegung zeigt negativ und positiv: Wölbung von Raum. „Dies“, so der Künstler, „bestimme unser heutiges Weltbild: Raum und Bewegung als Einheit: Raum und Zeit – die einzige untrennbare Einheit der uns bis heute bewussten Welt.“
