Meyer Kainer is pleased to present the first in a series of collaborations by artist/curator Will Benedict and artist/designer Julie Verhoeven. Replicating the bones of a restaurant Benedict and Verhoeven have elaborated upon Benedict's "Bonjour Tourist" series with illustrative additions by Julie Verhoeven renaming the series "Hello Tourist" due to Verhoeven's unrepentent Englishness. Julie Verhoeven has designed a series of table settings with details of Benedict's 1:1 scale photos from the "Bonjour Tourist" series. There will be a performance featuring Salvatore Viviano, Ali Janka, Michele Pagel, Kamilla Bischof, Christian Egger and Lisa Jo and a soundtrack of Charles Kay reading E.M. Forster's "The Panic".
Will Benedict (b. 1978 Los Angeles, lives and works in Vienna) studied at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena and Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main. Recent solo exhibitions include Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt am Main (2010) and Galerie Meyer Kainer, Vienna (2009) and the group exhibitions 'Flaca', curated by Tom Humphreys, Portikus, Frankfurt am Main (2011), 'Will Benedict, Nikolas Gambaroff, Carissa Rodriguez', Renwick Gallery, New York (2011) and 'Before and After', Balice Hertling, Paris (2010).
Upcoming solo exhibitions include Galerie Meyer Kainer, Vienna (2012).
In July, 2012 Benedict will curate an exhibition focused on portraiture at Andrew Kreps Gallery, New York.
Since 2008 he runs the exhibition space Pro Choice with Lucie Stahl.
Julie Verhoeven (b.1969 UK, lives in London)
Studied fashion at Kent Institute of Art & Design, UK.
Verhoeven launched her fashion label, Gibo in 2002 and has collaborated internationally with Louis Vuitton, Versace, H&M and Mulberry as well as musicians Graham Coxon. Primal Scream and Fischerspooner.
Recents solo shows include ZINGERpresents ,Amsterdam and MU, Eindhoven and group shows at Studio Voltaire and Deitch Projects.
Upcoming solo exhibitions include. Stadelijk Museum s'Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, Design Museum, Holon and Peles Empire, London with Anthea Hamilton.
In 2011 The V&A Museum, London aquired over 50 works for their prints and drawings archive.
Verhoeven has 3 monographs of her work published, Fat- Bottomed Girls, Gas Book 13 and A Bit of Rough.
