PIPILOTTI RIST, SHOW A LEG
25 August –11 November 2018
Curated by Nadia Schneider Willen (Collection Curator, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst).
The exhibition format Collection on Display showcases selected works from the collection of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. This year’s focus is on expansive sculptures and installations, a genre that figures prominently in the collection. In part produced specifically for temporary exhibitions in the museum’s galleries, a large number of these generously dimensioned works were acquired for the collection. They exemplify the close conjunction between exhibition programming and collection building that has been characteristic of the museum’s activities since its founding in 1996. This year’s Collection on Display presentations will be devoted to a small number of selected artists, affording their sprawling works ample space. Starting in February, two sculptural installations by Banks Violette (b. 1973, USA) and two works of sculpture by Oscar Tuazon (b. 1975, USA) will be on view on the museum’s ground floor, complemented by an audio installation for which Tuazon collaborated with Vito Acconci (1940–2017, USA). The second presentation, scheduled to open in late August, will bring a premiere: the entire upstairs gallery will be reserved for Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962, Switzerland) and her complex video installation Show a Leg (2001).
