COLLECTION: THE FIRST 30 YEARS
November 15, 2009 - June 15, 2010
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, MOCA opens Collection: The First 30 Years, a permanent installation of its renowned collection. Comprising nearly 6,000 works dating from 1939 to the present day, MOCA’s collection is internationally regarded as one of the largest and most important collections of postwar art in the world. While works from the collection have been exhibited in over 100 critically acclaimed thematic exhibitions at MOCA over the years, the new long-term installation will be the most comprehensive chronologically organized exhibition of MOCA’s permanent collection to date, with works dating between 1940–79 comprising the entirety of MOCA Grand Avenue’s 24,000 square feet of exhibition space and an equally large representation of works dating between 1980 and the present at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
