MOCA FOCUS: ERIC WESLEY
03.23.06 - 06.18.06

Eric Wesley (b. 1973) has become internationally known for his large-scale sculptural works that combine highly crafted objects with elements of performance and a wry, pranksterish social criticism. Wesley will create for MOCA a major new project, specifically for presentation in the gallery at MOCA Pacific Design Center. This monumentally scaled installation includes a rotating floor, a wrecked Vespa motorbike, and other iconic elements choreographed in mysterious theatrical and conceptual balance. In this project, as with past works, Wesley questions issues of presence in sculpture and the reception of the artist in the public arena of the contemporary art world. MOCA Focus: Eric Wesley is presented as part of MOCA Focus, a major initiative to showcase the work of emerging artists in Southern California. The exhibition is curated by MOCA Curator Connie Butler and is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

MOCA Focus: Eric Wesley is made possible by generous endowment support from The Nimoy Fund for New and Emerging Artists and the Fran and Ray Stark Foundation Fund to Support the Work of Emerging Artists. Major support is also provided by a multi-year grant from The James Irvine Foundation.
