ED TEMPLETON ‘THE JUDAS GOAT’

Stuart Shave | Modern Art is pleased to announce the first UK solo show by Californian artist and pro-skateboarder, .

Templeton’s chaotic installations incorporate photography, paintings, drawings, sketchbooks and wall paintings. Although never having trained formally as an artist Templeton has, over the past ten years, begun to exhibit his work in both museums and art galleries.

As a pro-skateboarder Templeton spends much of his time on the road and his installations and photography combine the hedonistic, transitory and visceral elements of his own lifestyle with those that are associated with the culture of skateboarding.

Images of smoking teenagers, of gravity-defying skate tricks, portraits of his friends and his wife and muse Deanna are presented, often with text and images painted on top of them, providing the viewer with diaristic recollections and intimate stories of his subjects lives.

Templeton presents us with a glimpse into his world; one that exists alongside mainstream society and that, despite the continuous efforts of local governments and police, continues to flourish as an exciting global subculture.

’s first major show was curated by Jerome Sans at the Palais de Tokyo in 2002, and his work was the also the subject of a solo show Museum het Domein, Sittard, Netherlands in 2001. Recent works were also included in the exhibition ‘Beautiful Losers’ at the Contemporary Art Centre Cincinnati. He lives and works in Huntington Beach, California.
