TEMPORARY MUSEUM AMSTERDAM
From 03-05-2006 untill 07-05-2006
During the show Art Amsterdam/KunstRAI the Temporary Museum Amsterdam will be open to the public for the first time. For five days the city will look like an imaginary museum, institutes for contemporary art are turned into galleries. The entrances of the participating spaces are marked, a Temporary Museum Guidebook is available and in each institute there are guides who supervise tours: this is how the museum takes shape. Every visitor to the art show is handed a master
key that gives free access to the galleries of the Temporary Museum Amsterdam: De Appel, De Ateliers, Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Huis Marseille, Kunstvlaai, Lloyd Hotel & Culturele Ambassade, Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst Montevideo/TBA, SKOR - de Inkijk, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum CS and W139.
Jennifer Steetskamp (Collection, Netherlands Media Art Institute) selected specially for the Temporary Museum the following works:
Hans Breder – Anti-City: For Johannes Baader (1984, 13’51”)
Marc Burkett – The Carpark Outlook (1988, 3’54”)
Karin Vanderborght – Exposed (1997, 4’25”)
Michiel van Bakel – Undertow (1999, 1’52”)
Robert Arnold – Triptych (2000, 10’05”)
Robert Hamilton – Amsterdam CS (2002, 5’26”)
Seoungho Cho – Horizontal Silence (2003, 9’23”)
Jasper van den Brink – Tunnel Vision (2004, 2’29”)
Gabriel Lester – Urban Surface (2005, 10’41”)
Artists often prefer video as medium to document their fragmented and biased experiences of the city. Through montage and time frames video and film give adequate expression to their complex and contradictory observations. Recording complex readings of urban space often results in formal experiments that challenges the viewer in going beyond the 'traditional' ways of looking. This programme will change your view of the city...
Open: May 3-7 from 1-6 p.m.
Entranche: free
