MOTINTERNATIONAL is pleased to present ZARDOZ, a group show with Nina Edling, Zoe Paul, Mathew Tom and Aishan Yu. ZARDOZ is the inaugural exhibition of MOTINTERNATIONAL Projects, at Regent Studios. For this new iteration of the space, MOTINTERNATIONAL Projects will focus on showcasing works by emerging artists from the UK and abroad. The exhibition appropriates its title from the 1974 science fiction, fantasy B-movie of the same name. Upon learning to read, the protagonist Zed sets out to unlock the secret of the venerated stone head ZARDOZ.
Nina Edling was born in 1985 Borlange, Sweden, and now lives and works in London. She graduated in 2012 with an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London and received her BFA from Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Norway. She has exhibited widely in Norway and Sweden with solo presentations The Theatre Room at Galleri Blunk, 2009, and Vi antar oss, Galleri Hörnan, 2008. Selected group exhibitions include SHOW ME WHERE IT HURTS (curated by Jonathan Watkins from IKON Gallery); The Drawing Exhibition 2010, Galleri KiT, Norway and Bara Färg, Gothenburg Art Museum, Sweden. In 2010, Edling was awarded the Birgit and Ragnar award for Art, Dalecarlia Museum, Sweden and The Printmaker's Head Award, by The Association of Norwegian Printmakers, Norway.
Zoe Paul was born in 1987 and lives and works in London. In 2012, she graduated with a MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London. Paul’s practice centers around the movement of peoples and places through the values held in objects and artifacts. Paul was recently part part of The Coutts Cowley Manor Art Award and in 2011 completed a residency at Cite International Des Artes, Paris. Recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition, Thalasseum at Cole Gallery, London. Group exhibitions include Lovely Summer Sunshine Time, Royal College of Art, London, 2011; Circuit Wisely, Ability Plaza, London, 2010; Between the Lines, Cass Sculpture Foundation, Sussex, 2010; Formal Inquiry, Cole Gallery, London, 2010 and Kids Company Shoe Box Auction and Exhibition, Haunch of Venison, London, 2010.
Mathew Tom was born in 1984 in Florida, USA. In 2011, he graduated from the MFA Fine Art programme at Goldsmiths, University of London, having previously received his Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 2008. In 2012, he completed a residency in the Netherlands with a concurrent solo show, Perfect Future *Where?. Selected group shows include Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy, London, UK, 2012; Wunderkammer, Hoxton Art Gallery, London, UK, 2012; Grammar of the Ornament, Hoxton Art Gallery, London, UK, 2011; Gen Next III, Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata, India, 2008; Lucky 13, Gene Siskel Film Center, Chicago, USA, 2007 and Paper Love, Dan Devening Projects, Chicago, USA, 2007.
Aishan Yu was born in 1981, Chongqing, China, and now lives and works in London, She graduated in 2008 with a MA in Fine Art from Slade School of Fine Art, London. In 2009, she won the Federation of British Artists Emerging Artist Prize in The Threadneedle Prize Exhibition, and in 2008 she was commissioned by St Andrew’s Church, London, to produce The Station’s of the Cross. Recent exhibitions include Jerwood Drawing Prize, Jerwood Space, London, 2012; 16mm Film Screening, MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, 2012; The Theadneedle Space launch Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London, 2012; Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy, London, 2012 and the The Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize, Oriel Kyffin Williams Gallery, Anglesey, 2012.
