CUBO GARUTTI: LUIGI PRESICCE
9 Аugust – 17 October 2016

Curated by Frida Carazzato
In collaboration with ArtVerona

From 9 August the Cubo Garutti venue will be hosting the work Fine eroica di un’immagine del Quattrocento by Luigi Presicce, which concludes the cycle connected to the exhibition “Museo Museion” by guest curator Francesco Vezzoli.

The piece consists in a photograph of a performance by Presicce, which sprang from a workshop with his students at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna in 2015. In the work the artist combines theatricality with ritual, drawing on both popular culture and iconography, and esotericism and free masonry. It is the result of a lengthy process which began with his students formulating a detailed description of a fifteenth century miniature, from which Presicce then created a tableau vivant that he staged in front of the famous painting Funerali di Togliatti by Renato Guttuso. The transition from the verbal to the visual was accomplished by means of references to the history of art and film. The Garutti Cube also hosts the five flags used in the performance, which form a single installation together with the photograph.

The Presicce exhibition marks a collaboration between Museion and ArtVerona, the modern and contemporary art fair (opening 14/10/2016). It is part of the project Level 0, initiated in 2013, in which various directors of contemporary art museums and instituitons select an artist to feature in a solo show.
