When Now is Minimal
23 Nov 2013 - 05 Oct 2014
The Unknown Side of the Sammlung Goetz
23 November 2013 - 5 October 2014
Munich’s Sammlung Goetz is one of the world’s most important private collections of contemporary art. The exhibition highlights how various generations of artists have explored the notion of minimalism, developing their ideas in the vast scope of contemporary art. Alongside visions that have strongly influenced the artistic take on minimalism since the 1960s, the exhibition presents a young generation of artists who, with a light touch and a liberated, playful and at times irreverent approach, engage with the ideas of the “forefathers”, creating their own personal styles. Most of the works are being presented to the public for the very first time. The wide variety of media featured, from works on paper to paintings, sculpture, wall-mounted installations and light art, reveals how this artistic current transcends limits of genre and generation.
