In the group exhibition "Konvergenz (Bergbau), eine Annäherung von Hängendem und Liegendem" former students of Andrea Büttner’s class at the Academy of Fine Arts Mainz meet the class’ current students. The works of the artists open up a dialog between these two generations of art students and show the complexity of current artistic positions. Andrea Büttner, who was awarded the Maria Sibylla Merian prize for female artists of Hesse, is Professor for Drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts Mainz since 2011. The works on display in the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden range from drawing, painting and sculpture as well as photography and video, to performance. Andrea Büttner comments on the working methods of her students: “They are in a discussion with themselves, with me and with each other. Works in different sizes are created in different media, various spaces are entered and illuminated. It is one of the most important tasks of the Academy of Fine Arts and the class to enter and observe these spaces together and to foster the joy with and the courage to them.”
The exhibition title originates in geology and refers to terms describing positions, layerings, and relationships of materials. Likewise, the artistic works within this group exhibition have to position themselves to each other, whereby new relationships and contexts constantly emerge.
