»My objective in teaching was always to show that dogmatic restrictions and ideological definitions are not acceptable in art―they always cause a blurring of awareness and paralyse creativity, leading artistically to nowhere. The forms of art are diverse as life itself―they must remain independent of trends and fashions, dictations by art dealers and curators, to develop independently. The artist must control his development himself and remain ›independent‹« ( Adam Jankowski, 2013)
The Austrian painter Adam Jankowski has been teaching painting at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach since 1987. In the summer of 2013 he will end his 26 years of teaching there, and on this occasion he has organized a group show in the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden called FREIE SICHT (Open View). It will show works by Jankowski himself and by select former students, who are now successfully active in the international art scene themselves.
The selection, in traditional and digital form, from many different fields and media of art―painting, drawing, objects, art photography spatial installation and design, is close to the interface of experimental works by communication designers and reflects Adam Jankowski’s liberal attitude towards art as to teaching. A publication from the jovis Verlag will accompany the exhibition, which will almost take up the entire area of the Kunstverein.
