We are pleased to announce the fifth solo exhibition with Jorge Pardo (born 1963) in our gallery, which will be on show from 7 May until 25 June 2005.
In his work, Jorge Pardo reflects the complex relationships between architecture, sculpture, design, painting and drawing. His artworks are not limited to particular functions, they can rather be understood as suggestions to their viewers and users. While dissolving artistic categories, Jorge Pardo offers in his work a fundamental challenge to the relationship between artwork and recipient. His paintings and objects are characterised by a dynamic rapport with the viewer, whose individual expectations define the way in which each piece should be perceived.
For this exhibition, Jorge Pardo has designed a group of "work-stations", which are distributed in the space as sculptural modules and can be used. Each sculpture is at the same time stool, computer, monitor and armchair. By providing both a work area and a place to relax, the pieces combine several needs of their users but can nevertheless each be experienced as an autonomous sculpture.
Permanent installations by Jorge Pardo can be seen in the museum cafe of the Kunstsammlung NRW K 21 in Düsseldorf, in the members' restaurant in the Deutsche Bundestag in Berlin and in the turbine hall of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf. In addition, the artist conceived an installation of street lamps for Wholsten Holm Square in Liverpool in 2003 and is currently in the process of designing and realising a family house in Puerto Rico. From 27 May onwards, sculptures by Jorge Pardo can be seen in the exhibition Kiss the Frog at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo.
In this context we would like to draw your attention to the long art weekend in Berlin at the beginning of May. Further details concerning this can be found on
