A Guide to Campo del Cielo

Nusser & Baumgart is proud to present the first gallery solo exhibition of Faivovich & Goldberg, a survey of works created since 2006 by the argentine duo in the context on their long term project A Guide to Campo del Cielo.
After their highly regarded exhibition Meteorit „El Taco” at Portikus, Frankfurt in 2010, project participation at MIT, Cambridge (2011) and their contribution to Simon Starling’s The inaccessible poem at Fondazione Merz in Torino (2011-12), their participation in last year’s dOCUMENTA(13) represented another highlight in the international attention that the work of the artists has been receiving for several years now.
Guillermo Faivovich (Buenos Aires, 1977) and Nicolás Goldberg, (Paris, 1978) have been working since 2006 on A Guide to Campo del Cielo, an ongoing project regarding the cultural impact of a 4,000 year old meteorite shower in the region of Chaco, Argentina, as these large masses of iron have been a source of endless mystery and wonder, leading to constant human pilgrimages. By extensive research, Faivovich & Goldberg are tracing the earthbound lives of several fragments of the Campo del Cielo meteorites, as well as furthering the cultural dimension of the phenomenon. By means of artistic examination, reconstruction and reinterpretation of visual, oral and written records, the artists work on both historic and contemporary issues concerning these iron masses. Their approach to the subject includes bibliographical inquiry, archival research, as well as interacting with people who have been involved in the region’s history and wide-reaching fieldwork. Comprehensive documentation has been published in two books edited by dOCUMENTA (13): The Campo del Cielo Meteorites – Vol. 1: El Taco (Hatje Cantz, 2010) and The Campo del Cielo Meteorites – Vol. 2: Chaco (Walther König, 2012).
At Nusser & Baumgart, the artists are presenting a variety of media including installation-based works in photography, painting, sculpture and video. In three separate chambers, Faivovich & Goldberg unfold the chapters of this ongoing project with works from Vol. 1: El Taco, Vol. 2: Chaco and Vol. 3: Mesón de Fierro.
