SOFIE BIRD MØLLER | ALEXANDER LANER
2 May - 24 June 2014

Opening on April 30th, Nusser & Baumgart hosts "activity based art" that could not be more diverse: motorised machines on one hand, a body turned into paintbrush on the other.

Alexander Laner (b. 1974) shows us in his sculptures and installations the fascination for small and big engines, puzzling the beholder with his inventions. Sofie Bird Møller (b. 1974) illustrates the more bodily side of painting.

Both positions have one aspect in common: their aim is to highlight a process. Processing action is a crucial factor for both artists' work: Bird Møller refers to the tradition of action painting, transferring it into the present by painterly gesture over contemporary pictures. Looking at Laner’s work, the action is always present in his artistic engineering. In this show, the dichotomy between „Man and Machine“ - that is virulent since Modernity - is surprising and multi-faceted way.
