Office Baroque is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition of Sadie Laska.

Sadie Laska’s paintings are lyrical and messy American abstractions. Congested scribbles, exclamations, and quick figuration form vertical landscapes on colored grounds. Whether depicting a rock and roll cliche, or veering more closely to that of an abstract bouquet, the paintings are trashy and fun, sincere in their irreverence.

Painted guitar shapes act as the body in relation to the abstract still lifes and landscapes. The guitar is the tool, an axe that carves the mark, and serves as a reminder that all painters want to play in a band.

Sadie Laska was born in 1974 in Prince, USA, received her BFA from West Virginia University in 1992 and her MFA from Bard College in 2014. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions including Canada, New York; White Columns, New York; Bernard Ceysson, Luxembourg and Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, New York. She currently lives and works in New York.
