YUTAKA SONE
Perfect Moment
15 January - 27 March, 2011

Los Angeles-based international artist SONE Yutaka's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the world. In recent years he has also established studios in China and Mexico. In the former, he has been creating sculptures using materials such as marble and crystal sourced from the Chinese town of Chong Wo, which has a long history of stonemasonry. In the latter, SONE has been creating sculptures in collaboration with local craftsmen in the city of Guadalajara, using materials such as timber and natural fibers. In moving to and working in new locations, SONE personally intervenes in the local society and political situation by creating works directly in the community. By actively taking on the friction and contradictions that lie between different cultures, classes, and occupations, SONE offers the concept of sculpture as one approach for achieving freedom, fitting narrowly into the gap between simple beauty and complex reality. The artist's body of work presented includes some of his most recent sculptures.
